valentine's day is tuesday and i was just wondering; for those who still have mates in dub land...is it tempting to maybe buy them flowers or insist on a dinner date on such a lovey-dovey day?
i saw some yellow roses on sale today at walmart and was tempted to get some for my mom then i realized i'd better wait till after the 14th.

My hubby asked me this morning what I wanted for Vday. (He's inactive, but still considers himself JW). With him probably going on strike with his job on Wednesday, I told him not to buy anything - what I'd really love is for him to cook me dinner and do the dishes afterwards! Now that's a treat!!!! lol

after reading the tragedy of puternut, i was thinking that perhaps it's time that the government took another look at what can happen when they allow religions like the jws, to cut off family members without a second thought.
surely someone's rights to have normal religions with their family should come before freedom of religion.
isn't it ironic that the gb fought so hard in court to obtain freedom of religion, yet their own members commit suicide when they try to express this very right.

do any of you parents and/or sons and daughters feel weird about sleeping in the same bed as your parent and/or son or daughter?
is there a certain age that this behavior becomes inappropriate?

No way would I want to sleep in the same bed as both my parents! I would sleep in a bed with my mother - but not both my mom and dad. Especially as an 18 year old girl! If there was not an extra room or pull out, then I'd ask for some extra blankets or something and make a bed on the floor.
OTOH, if I knew a couple were coming to stay at my house with their 18 year old daughter I would try and find someplace else to put her apart from her parents - kids need their own space as much as the parents do. I wouldn't think of putting her in the same room if at all possible, and if it was not possible, let them know before they got there what the sleeping arrangements would be and if it was a problem for them they might feel like they'd have to make alternate arrangements.
I've slept in the same hotel room and camper as my parents, but as an 18 year old girl - I'd rather sleep on the floor than in the same bed as both of my parents! But maybe I'm just an uptight Canadian girl!

my mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cuting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't get food poisoning.
my mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter and i used to eat a bite raw sometimes, too.
our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper, in a brown paper bag, not in ice pack coolers, but i can't remember anybody getting e.coli.. almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool ( talk about boring ), no beach closures then.. the term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school pa. system.
When I think about some of the things I did growing up - I'm surprised I'm alive, and with no broken bones. My brother and sister and I did things I'd never let children do now!

...so said my dear 'ol mom after her and my dad made reservations for this year's district convention and realized that another hotel on the lodging list had a cheaper rate.
she figured that calling up the previous hotel to cancel was against the society's rules counsel listed in the km about making reservations.
so she spends the next 20 minutes looking all over the house for the km to make sure there are no rules against cancelling a reservation already made with a hotel since "we don't want to bring on reproach on jehovah's name.

My dad was similar. He was a smart man, and a great reader. Often I'd see him with bound volumes, Aid books etc all spread around him. He pretty much knew the answers to any question starting with "Let's see what the Society says about it first...."

my boyfriend is so messy!
i just arrived here at his apartment and seriously, the place is gross.
he has improved quite a bit since he met me... but i surprised him and he wasn't expecting me so the place is nasty.
I don't think I'd say I am a neat "freak". I like things neat and tidy, but it doesn't always stay that way! I used to be a pack rat - but just last month went through my place and got rid of a whole ton of stuff!! Much less clutter, nice and simple now, nic nacks sent to the thrift store - somebody else can do the dusting now. I do start to freak out though when my hubby continually makes messes after I clean up! It drives me nuts - I spend hours cleaning and putting stuff away and he's home for 5 min and it looks like a tornado went through the place. He's always been like that - I just wish my mother in law had of warned me BEFORE we got married!
